OVERVIEW
Humes

versatile back who is most effective in short yardage situations due to his leg
drive, but has the quickness to turn the corner and gain positive yardage…While
built more in the lines of a fullback, he came into his own the last two years
as a runner and has the strength and stamina to excel in a one-back
offense…Humes competed as a tailback and linebacker at Princess Anne High
School…He earned Super Prep and Prep Star All-America honors after rushing for
1,640 yards and 22 touch-downs as a senior…On defense, Humes contributed 87

Offensive Player of the Year that season…Humes gained 1,300 yards and 18
touchdowns rushing and recorded 80 tackles with five interceptions, returning
three for scores as a junior…His team posted a 19-5 record in his two years as a
starter and made back-to-back appearances in the Group AAA playoffs…He also
lettered in basketball and track…Humes redshirted in 2001 at Virginia
Tech…During 2002 spring drills, he was switched to fullback, but moved back to
tailback prior to the season opener…He appeared in every game, but managed only
68 yards on 16 carries (4.2 avg) and 76 yards on seven catches…In 2003, Humes
played in thirteen games behind All-American tailback Kevin Jones…He rushed 65
times for 380 yards (5.8 avg) and five touchdowns, but turned the ball over four
times on six fumbles…He made four catches for 31 yards and returned sixteen
kickoffs for 268 yards (16.8 avg)…As a junior, Humes started the first four
games, but struggled most of the year to recover from a broken fibula suffered
during the preseason…He still finished second on the team with 605 yards and
five scores on 130 attempts (4.7 avg) and totaled 46 yards on eight catches (5.8
avg) to finish with 651 all-purpose yards…Humes started nine games as a senior
in 2005, but missed some midseason action with a broken bone in his right
forearm…He led the team with a career-high 162 carries for 752 yards (4.6 avg)
and 11 touchdowns…He snared 10 passes for 71 yards and picked up 823 all-purpose
yards…In 52 games with the Hokies, Cedric started 13 times…He rushed 375 times
